Hearing Good News When Canvassing in Ward 6

I came upon a home occupied by an 85 year old Democrat voter.  When I brought up the issue of immigration, she related a very heart-warming story about her Hispanic neighbors.  She said that her husband passed away last year and needed a lot of support during the months leading up to his passing.  She told me that her Hispanic neighbors really stepped up when she needed assistance.  They built a ramp up to the front door so her husband could get in and out of the house when he was in a wheel chair.  Then they even rented a hospital bed so he could sleep in her front room.  She went on to say that if ICE ever came into her neighborhood, they would have to “get by her” before they entered any homes of her Hispanic neighbors!

Canvassing Can Be Rewarding

Canvassing in Ward 6 on a recent Saturday morning, I ran into a voter who said he was really pleased that I came to his door.  He went on to say that we have become so electronically connected that it was refreshing to talk to a real human being at his front door about public policy issues that matter!  He again thanked me for stopping by and telling him about smart progressive candidates running for office at the local level.

Gardeners, take note!  

On a recent canvass I met a delightful woman in Ward 6. I complimented her on her roses and she insisted on making me a beautiful bouquet of roses to take with me! On a previous canvass, I met another gardener. I commented on all his camellias. I came home with the entire back of my car full of plants and seeds for camellias!
